How to distinguish the quality of ceramic tiles

1、 Look at it

Mainly check whether there are black spots, bubbles, pinholes, cracks, scratches, color spots, missing edges, missing corners, etc. on the surface of the ceramic tiles. Also pay attention to whether there are defects such as missing polishing and grinding. Check the trademark markings on the base of the product. Products produced by legitimate manufacturers have clear product trademark markings on the base, such as Katina tiles with clear back markings. If there are no or particularly blurry markings, it is recommended to choose carefully!

2、 Weigh it up

It's about weighing the weight and testing the texture of the tiles. For products of the same specification, high-quality and high-density tiles have a heavier texture, while low-quality products have a lighter texture.

3、 Listen up

By tapping the tiles and listening to the sound, the quality of the tiles can be identified. Below, we will introduce them from two aspects: kitchen and bathroom wall tiles and vitrified tiles:

Knocking method:

1) Wall tiles or small-sized ceramic tiles

Generally, one hand is used to separate the five fingers and lift the tiles, while the other hand is used to strike the surface of the tiles. If the sound produced has a metallic texture, the quality of the tiles is better.

2) Large floor tiles (vitrified tiles or antique tiles are used for living rooms and other floors)

Lift one side of the tile with one hand and strike the middle of the tile with the upper palm of the other hand. If the sound is strong and the echo is as long as the sound of a copper bell, the degree of ceramicization of the tile is high, the wear resistance is strong, the bending strength is high, the water absorption rate is low, and it is not easily contaminated. If the sound is cloudy and there is no echo, the degree of ceramicization is low (even cracks exist), the embryo of the tile is not fully calcined, the wear resistance is poor, the bending strength is low, and the water absorption rate is also higher. Such vitrified tiles are highly susceptible to pollution.

4、 Pinduoduo

Randomly take out 4 pieces of products of the same specification and model, and lay them together. Through this step, you can check the size, flatness, and right angle of the tiles in three aspects.

1) Check the size of the tiles

Take out two products of the same model and place them on a horizontal surface. Use the tips of both hands to slide back and forth along the edges of the tiles. If there is no obvious feeling of sticking when passing through the joint of the tiles, it indicates that the size of the tiles is good and the error is small. The smaller the size error, the better the tiling effect of the tiles! On the contrary, if there is a noticeable feeling of holding the tiles, it indicates that the size error of the tiles is large, which will affect the paving effect!

2) Check the flatness of ceramic tiles

Lay two or four tiles of the same model on a flat surface according to the same pattern, and slide them back and forth on the tile surface with your hand. If there is no obvious sense of height passing through the joint of the tiles, it indicates that the flatness of the tiles is good. Conversely, if the flatness of the tiles is poor, it will affect the overall effect of tile laying. If the flatness of the tiles is poor, it can even trip people in serious cases! So this point needs attention.

3) The problem of the right angle of ceramic tiles

Nowadays, ceramic tiles are mainly rectangular in shape, with each corner being a right angle. If the angle is poor, it will also affect the tiling effect of the tiles. Take four tiles of the same model and splice them together. If the four tiles cannot be tightly jointed and there is always a gap in one or two joints, it indicates that the angle of the tiles is not very good.

5、 Try it out

As for the anti slip problem of floor tiles, the materials are mainly divided into two types: vitrified and glazed. For the anti slip problem of floor tiles nowadays, the common practice is to add water to the surface of the tile and then test it on top to see if it is slippery. This method is actually not entirely appropriate because some tiles, especially vitrified tiles, feel more slippery after adding water. This principle is similar to adding water between glass. If you want to open the glass, it is difficult because the water squeezes out the air in the middle, making the tile and the shoe surface contact more tightly, so it feels more slippery. However, some vitrified tiles feel slippery when not adding water.

Suggestions for selecting bricks

The tiles selected for different usage areas and purposes are also different according to the needs.
